Sierra Leone Initiative

Our mission is to create an intervention in the trajectory of the lives of women and children affected by the trauma caused by domestic violence, gender-based violence, and teenage pregnancy, many of whom are child brides. Often women and girls who find themselves in these situations feel helpless and haven't the outside support to see any hope for change in their lives. We aim to be a beacon of hope and resources to affect the lives of our constituents mentally, emotionally, vocationally, and financially. It only takes one generation to change the trajectory of a family and a nation for generations to come.

Why?

One in three women is the victim of domestic violence globally; when you consider other forms of gender-based violence, this number grows exponentially. Sierra Leone is a country that is trying to address these issues and needs help to address the overwhelming need for post-trauma services as it pushes to educate the public.

Adequate housing and trauma-focused care, life skills, and vocational training are crucial for survivors to acquire and maintain a decent quality of life for themselves and their children. Domestic violence is the leading cause of poverty for women when they leave an abusive situation. When you consider child brides thriving and prospering is impossible without a focused intervention. The proper intervention can change the trajectory of the lives of women and girls for generations to come.

What?

Our purpose is

  • To support women and child brides affected by domestic abuse and gender-based trauma in identifying and exploring life choices and empowering them to attain independence and healing through counseling, education, technical training, coding library, and vocational support.
  • To provide educational services, including fostering financial knowledge, responsibility, and accountability.
  • To create living situations for individuals with customized support services that allow them to live independently by providing decent, affordable, accessible transitional housing for women, child brides, and their children.
